Driver kills motorcyclist, runs off in Hillsborough County

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL (WFLA) -

A driverran a red light and hit and killed a motorcyclist Wednesday evening in Hillsborough County. The manthen tried to run away from the scene of the accident, authorities said.

FloridaHighway Patrol troopers responded to the accident scene atthe intersection of US 301 and Balm Riverview Road in Riverview lateWednesday evening. They told us John Clinton Butler, 33, of Ruskin, was goingsouth on US 301 and didn't stop at the red light.

He hit amotorcyclist, who was thrown from the bike. Butler'sChevy continued to push the Honda motorcycle for a few yards beforecolliding with a Ford pickup truck stopped on the northbound lane.

Butlerran away but came back about two hours later, troopers said. They arrested himfor  DUI manslaughter, leaving the scene of a crash, and drivingwhile license suspended.

Themotorcyclist died at the scene. Colton Wilson, 21, of Tampa, who was drivingthe Ford, didn't have any injuries, according to the FHP report.
