Ten-Day Festival Celebrating Clearwater's Sugar Sand Beaches

Posted: Updated:

The City of Clearwater's Fun 'n Sun Festival and Sunsets at Pier 60 Daily Festival have joined together to showcase Clearwater beaches during ten sugar sand days and sunset nights with the debut of Frenchy's Sugar Sand Festival from April 19-28, 2013.

Located just south of Pier 60 on Clearwater Beach, one thousand tons of Clearwater Beach's sugar sands will be creatively carved into the Sugar Sand Walk Exhibit, an artistic walk-through display in a 12,000-square-foot tent.  Cost of admission is $7 for Adults, $5 for Students 13 to 18 years old, and $5 for Seniors (55 & up) and Military.  Children 12 & under are free.

In addition, Frenchy's Sugar Sand Festival will offer a variety of free activities on Clearwater Beach for all ten sand-filled days including:

· Frenchy's Master Sand Sculpting Competition-featuring six master sculptors competing for a $5,000 grand prize on the final weekend.

· Sugar Sand & Sunsets Sculpting Clinics-which allow visitors a chance to create their own sand masterpieces. Workshops will be held beachside both weekends and carving tools will be supplied.

· Speed Sand Demonstrations-will provide a fast-paced, interactive sand sculpting experience. Guests will be asked to write down unique and unusual ideas for sculptures that will be created on the spot. Suggestions will be chosen randomly and then the artists will have ten minutes to complete the challenge. Audience applause determines the winner of each round and the best out of three will be crowned champion.

· Camp Hyatt Sandbox-a children's play area on the beach complete with sand toys and your child's imagination.

· CCM Photo Opportunity-Step inside a custom designed sculpture and get a poster or event keepsake photo book.

· Sandcastle's In the Sun Tour-by Ocean Potion with guest appearance by Kirk Rademaker from the Travel Channel's Sand Masters.

· Clearwater Marine Aquarium Night at Sunset Cinema-red carpet meet & greet with Winter Mascot & Dolphin Tale movie.

· Sugar Sand Circus-stunning aerial silk acrobatics, trapeze, and death-defying rope walking, family-friendly variety show.

· Sunsets at Pier 60-artisans, street performers and live entertainment.

· "Sugar Sand Moments" are event-themed retail, beauty, food and beverage discounts celebrated locally during the festival.

· Bright House Networks Sand Blast Fireworks will light up the night sky over Pier 60 on April 27.

The ten-day festival will celebrate all that is spectacular about Clearwater Beach and why the readers of USA Today named Clearwater the Best Beach Town in Florida.  The Fun 'n Sun Festival will be marking its 60th Anniversary and Florida is turning 500 years old.
