Two Hillsborough County nature preserves to have prescribed burns

Posted: Updated:
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL (WFLA) -

Cockroach Bay Aquatic Preserve in Ruskin and Lake Dan Nature Preserve in Odessa will burn for a day Wednesday, Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department told us.

The department scheduled the prescribed burn to help manage the preserves' ecosystems and reduce natural fire fuel.

If the level of natural fuels in the ecosystems rises, it may increase chances of wildfires, according to the Hillsborough County Parks and Recreation Department's website.

The burns will last for one day. If you have any questions or concerns, you can call the Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department at 813-672-7876.

Tuesday's primary election will be the final decision on some races across the Tampa Bay region.Although primaries are often thought of as precursors to the general election, some contests won't make it that far.
