Fire in east Tampa injures a man

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

A fire in east Tampa injured a man Tuesday morning.  Arson inspectors and Tampa Fire marshals are at the scene at 8423 16th St North in Sulphur Springs neighborhood to investigate the incident.

Captain Lonnie Benniefield with Tampa Fire and Rescue told us firefighters responded to this location around 6:14 a.m.  They quickly took the man out of the house and got the fire under control.

Benniefield said they believed the fire started in the kitchen, but they would wait for the investigation results.

"Right now we are still waiting on investigators to finish up ... to give us determination where the fire started and ... if this was suspicious at all," he said.

Benniefield added firefighters found three dogs in the house.  The dogs were dead.

Rescue teams transported the man to Tampa General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
