Lawnmower runs over Palm Harbor girl

Posted: Updated:
PALM HARBOR, FL (WFLA) -

A 2-year-old girl is being treated at Tampa General Hospital tonight after Palm Harbor firefighters say a riding lawnmower driven by her father ran over her, severing both her legs and injuring her hand.

The 911 call came in around 7:30 PM from 550 Hollow Ridge Road.  Firefighters say the girl's father was driving the lawnmower, when his daughter came running in front of him.  Investigators say the girl slipped and fell into the path of the lawnmower, and her father was unable to stop in time.

The girl suffered "immediate amputations to both legs below the knees and partial amputation on her hand," according to a press release.  The girl's mother was reportedly screaming for her daughter to stop as she ran towards the lawnmower.

The girl's parents are being treated for hysteria.  Stay with WFLA.com for the latest on this developing story.
