Katelyn Norman, a teenager from Tennessee, died in a hospital Friday after a two-year fight with invasive bone cancer, our partners at WBIR, the local NBC affiliate in Tennessee reported. But she had her dream come true first.

The community pulled together to bring a smile to Norman's face when they threw her a prom party a few days earlier at the hospital, WBIR reporters told us.

She started a bucket list after doctors said her diagnosis was terminal. Going to prom was at the top. But she was too weak to leave the hospital. Her friends brought the prom to her.

Katelyn's story got media attention locally and internationally. WBIR shared this video about the prom. The Huffington Post reported, she also wanted to travel to Italy, ride a motorcycle and get a kiss. Australian and African media outlets posted stories about her fight with the des ease.

Katelyn Norman died about 8 a.m. Friday at East Tennessee Children's Hospital. She was 14.

Her family received over 1200 e-cards from people trying to show their support, WBIR reporters told us.
