NC couple appear in court after videotaped road rage shooting

NEWPORT, NC (WFLA) -

The man arrested for a road rage shooting faced a judge for the first time Wednesday morning.

The appearance happened in a Carteret County courtroom just before noon.

The judge told Bradley Turner, the 40-year-old suspect in a road rage fight and shooting, that he cannot have a gun or contact the victims or any witnesses.

Turner faces up to 12-years in prison for the shooting.

Tuesday, the 911 call of the incident captured the moments just after the shooting.

Caller: Oh he shot out my back glass of my truck. Holy s---!

Dispatcher: He did?

Caller: Oh my God.

That was 20-year-old William Berry on the phone with dispatchers. He's the guy in the white baseball cap beating up Turner, who punched him in the face, police say.

Deputies say 40-year-old Turner followed Berry and a friend home Sunday to get even with them for cutting him off in traffic.

After a fight that Turner appeared to lose, the suspect's wife, 30-year-old Christy Turner, appeared on the video to give her husband a gun.

In the call, Berry says Turner pointed the gun at him and tried to fire, but there was no clip.

That's when they ran inside.

Deputies say Turner then loaded the gun and fired the shots.

The Lenoir County couple bonded out of jail Monday night after deputies say they were caught on tape attacking a driver in a violent case of road rage.

Deputies say Bradley Turner, age 40, from La Grange took out his anger Sunday morning at another man who cut him off while driving.

Turner allegedly started punching his victim, a man in a white baseball cap, after following him from James City to his house in Newport. The victim's friend shot cell phone video of the whole thing.

Eventually the suspect's wife, 30-year-old Christy Turner, came out with a gun.

Deputies say her husband shot at his victims, missing them, but hitting the victim's car and a neighbor's home.

"That's a big concern, because you never know what will come up next," said Antonio Suban, whose home was damaged from the gunfire.

Deputies say Bradley and Christy Turner turned themselves into the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office Monday afternoon. WNCT-TV had a crew at the magistrate's office as the couple was getting booked.

The incident happened around 1 pm on Highway 70 near English Street. Deputies say the shooting was a result of road rage that started on Highway 70 in the James City area of Craven County.

Investigators wanted to track down the driver of the car, a female passenger, and a toddler. The man and woman eventually surrendered to deputies around 4 pm on Monday afternoon.

Deputies say the driver fired several rounds at the other car.

Bradley Turner has been charged with discharging a weapon into property, two counts of assault by pointing a gun, Going Armed to the Terror of People, Injury to Personal Property and Assault.

Christy Turner has been charged with two counts of assault by pointing a gun.

Video shows that a woman and man got into a fight with some men at what appears to be the driveway of a home.

On video, the fight seems to begin when a man in dark colored shirt approaches a pick-up truck and appears to assault men inside.

The two men get out of the truck and begin a fist fight.

The man in the dark shirt appears to lose the fist fight, but then gets a gun and deputies say that he fired it.

It's not clear how the man got the gun -- but on video it seems the woman might have handed it to him.

After a few seconds, the man then took off with the rest of the family still in the car.

So far, there do not appear to be any charges against the two adults related to the toddler or child being in the midst of the incident.
