History teacher among men caught in Manatee Co. sting

MANATEE COUNTY, FL (WFLA) -

1 by 1, 35 in all showed up at a Manatee County house thinking they were meeting a minor to have sex.  In reality, they got busted by deputies at a place rigged with hidden cameras.  One of those is 40 year old Phillip Kornell, a history teacher at Chamberlain High in Tampa.

Like the others, investigators say Kornell went to Internet chat rooms, struck up a conversation with a deputy posing as an underage girl, and set up a meeting for sex.  "We've all been trying to run these operations to send a message to, in the state of Florida don't entice our kids over the Internet to do illegal acts.  Sexual acts" said Manatee Sheriff Brad Steube.

Despite repeated round ups, men still take the bait, and drive for miles for sex with children. "With the number of arrests that we make in these and other types of investigations that we do, I'm not shocked with anything anymore as to who we arrest" said the Sheriff.

A Hillsborough school district spokesman says Phillip Kornell has received a letter not to report to the classroom ever again, that his employment is over.
