Tampa detectives searching for car involved in fatal accident

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

Tampa police say Sunday at about 7:35p.m., Gabriela Padilla was driving her Jeep SUV west on Waters Avenue when a dark grey Ford F150, which was also driving west made an erratic lane change in front of the her.  Officers say Padilla swerved to avoid hitting the truck and crossed over the center line.  She struck the left side of a car driven by 41-year-old Elizabeth Barford of Tampa as she traveled in the opposite direction.  The driver of the Ford truck, officers say, did not stop and was last seen westbound from the scene.

Medical responders pronounced Barford deceased at the scene.  Padilla was treated at St. Joseph's Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.  It is unclear if the driver of the Ford truck knew he was the cause of the accident, but detectives would like to talk to that driver.  Tampa police say the vehicle they are searching for is a 2003-2007 Ford F150, Extended cab, dark color, black rims with silver 12" center hub caps
