TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

A broken line of severe storms associated with a strong cold front, will continue to move through Tampa Bay through this evening.  The greatest threat is damaging wind gusts over 60 mph. Hernando County Sheriff's Office has received numerous reports of trees down throughout the county.

Our lightning detectors indicate that it's been prolific, with close to 2,000 strikes in a 10 minute time period. Hail from nickle to quarter size was reported in Hudson, in Pasco County.  While an isolated tornado can't be entirely ruled out, it's unlikely.

The other impact has been street flooding in poor drainage areas.  As the line of storms sinks to the south and pushes to the east, it'll likely become less cohesive, resulting in less rain.

The storms will most likely impact St. Petersburg and Tampa between 3:30-4:30pm. From there, they'll drift into our southeastern most viewing area around sunset.  Reports of nearly 2000 customers between Progress Energy and Tampa Electric are without power.

This is a developing situation, and Storm Team 8 is fully staffed and will cut into programming as warranted.
