Volunteers build Tampa playground in one day

Posted: Updated:

Children in an East Tampa community will have a new playground by the end of the day Saturday.

200 volunteers, many  from Re-Birth Baptist Church, were building the playground Saturday at the King's Kids Academy of Health Sciences, 1924 N. Comanche St., Tampa.  Their goal was to finish all of the work in just one day.

KKAHS  is a new public charter school that educates children,  kindergarten through 3rd grade. As part of its mission for a healthier community,  KKAHS offers physical education 5 times a week, and the playground will give students a safe place to play.

The playground was a project of KaBOOM! , a national  non-profit organization dedicated to saving playtime for children.  Its mission is to provide every child in America a great place to play within walking distance.  So far, KaBOOM! has built more than 2,200 playgrounds across the country.
