Polk State Lake Wales Arts Center ready for ribbon cutting

Posted: Updated:
POLK COUNTY, FL (WFLA) -

The new and improved Polk State Lake Wales Arts Center is ready to celebrate its opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday.

College president Eileen Holden says the school acquired the title to the historic 1927 building back in 2011 with the promise to renovate and restore the facility for the community.

Among the nearly $2 million in renovations are refurbished stained glass windows, upgraded signage, a reinforced rotunda and renovated restrooms.

President Holden says the purpose of the new facility is simple, "To bring the visual and performing arts alive and an integral part of the culture of the community and not just a select group. This is going to open it up for everyone in this community to enjoy," she said.

The Polk State Lake Wales Arts Center ribbon cutting is open to the public and will take place March 21st from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m.  The facility is located at 1099 State Road 60 East in Lake Wales.

With a toss of a football, Charlie Crist boarded the bus in Orlando. “On to victory,” Crist announced, as he headed to his seat. It's a campaign tour that might have seemed improbable just a few years ago. But the former governor is on the campaign trail again, trying to win over voters to win back his old job in Tallahassee.

James Woolever was shocked to find a bad mark on his credit report. Especially since it was for an "outstanding balance" from a Verizon account opened in 1979. He knew that couldn't be right, because he was just 6 years old then.
