HERNANDO COUNTY, FL -

The Hernando County Sheriff's Office reports that on Monday14-year old Kevin Mellerke pulled a knife on an elderly woman after ringing her door bell.  Deputies say the woman attempted to close the door, but Mellerke forced his way in, held a knife to her chest, and demanded money and jewelry.  The teen then ran from the home.  The 87-year old woman was not injured.

The victim and neighbors were able to provide a good description of Mellerke and his brothers who had been in the area several days earlier collecting donations for a charity.  Deputies were able to confirm that Powell Middle School, located near the victim, was holding a fundraiser for The American Heart Association.   After talking to school officials, investigators learned that a particular student had collected a large amount of money for the benefit.  They also learned the student lived close to the victim of the home invasion, according to the report.

Deputies say 14-year old Kevin Mellerke confessed to the attack, and now faces felony home invasion charges.
