Carnival Cruise Lines cancels more trips

Tampa Bay -

With two ships undergoing a longer maintenance and inspection, Carnival Cruise Lines announced that it will cancel ten trips for Carnival Triumph and two trips for Carnival Sunshine.

The company stated in its Facebook post that they are starting the first phase of the fleetwide operational review. Company officials said they plan to improve the ships' operational and hotel services. Another key item of the review is the ships' fire prevention, detection and suppression systems.

Carnival Cruise Lines president and CEO Gerry Cahill said that the company's ships have effective safety systems, training and equipment in place.

"The changes we are implementing are focused primarily on improvements to better support continued power and hotel services should unexpected issues arise," he said adding that the company regrets disrupting people's vacation plans.

Triumph and Sunshine will be out of service longer because of these inspections and improvements. Sunshine will come back May 3, Triumph will return to service June 3.

Passengers will receive a full refund, reimbursement for non-refundable transportation costs and a 25% discount on some future cruises.
