MANATEE COUNTY, FL -

Authorities say an off duty City of St. Pete officer was heading home in his personal vehicle when he reported that he was shot at on I275, near the south side fishing pier ramp on the Sunshine Skyway. He was still in uniform and wearing a windbreaker with "POLICE" clearly noticeable on his sleeves.

The off duty officer reported that an older model blue Honda pulled up beside him and that's when the shooting occurred. The officer reported only hearing one shot and his driver side window shattered. The officer was able to radio his dispatch and they relayed the information to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office. Responding units searched the area, but the suspect car was not located. The officer was treated by EMS, and he sustained minor cuts to his face due to the shattering of the glass. The investigation is ongoing at the time.

Anyone with information about a crime is asked to call the MANATEE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE at (941) 747-3011 or Crime Stoppers at (866) 634-TIPS (8477).
