St. Pete PD: man confessed to killing roommate

Posted: Updated:
ST PETERSBURG -

A St. Petersburg man who called 911 to report finding his roommate's dead body has been arrested for his murder.

Around 10:00 AM, Michael James Osentoski called police to say he had just returned home, and found Daryl Ralph Harper's body in the garage apartment at 364 8th Street North.

Osentoski initially told police that he left the house around 1:00 AM and returned to find Harper beaten, with a bloody baseball bat laying nearby.  He claimed he and Harper had been friends for 8 years.

After further questioning, Osentoski admitted he had beaten Harper to death during a fight over the sharing of a cigarette and a beer.  Osentoski claims Harper hit him with a pipe, so he attacked him with the bat.
