Travel agents: despite bad news, some cruise ships leave sold out

It's been less than a dream vacation for the more than 43-hundred passengers aboard the Carnival Dream.

Stuck in St. Maarten after an electrical malfunction, some of the passengers picked up their cell phones. "Last evening the toilets were over flowing down in the common areas on the main floors" said Gregg Stark, by cell phone.

While the ship can move on its own fine, Carnival decided not to sail without a back up generator working.  It has decided to fly everyone to the US and is offering refunds.

At the Port of Tampa, passengers boarding the Carnival "Paradise" were well aware of problems on the "Dream."

"Ya know? It happens. It's a 50-50 chance. I've been on Carnival, I've been on Disney. I've been on Royal Caribbean. And I've always had a good time," said Priscilla Valdes.

Last month, the Carnival "Triumph" limped to shore after an engine fire knocked out power, causing toilets and air conditioning to stop working.

Despite the series of bad news, A Inlays Park travel agent says cruise bookings are up and some ships leave sold out. "Actually we're getting a lot of first time cruisers out there. It's amazing how many people have not been on a cruise. we're getting first timers and I don't think it deters people from going on cruises," said Nancy Salisbury of Advantage cruises and tours.

A  Carnival spokesman says the problems on board are corrected.
