TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

After deliberating for five and a half hours, a jury has found Dontae Morris guilty of first degree murder and attempted armed robbery in connection with the death of Rodney Jones outside the Cotton Club in 2010.

Jones' sister, Daphne Stephens, told the judge that pets are treated more humanely when they're put down than her brother was when Morris shot him.  Stephens said she knows nothing can bring Jones back, but she hopes Morris gets the maximum sentence.

Jones' uncle told the court he doesn't know why Morris did what he did, but he also hopes he gets the maximum sentence.

The judge said he would sentence Morris at a later date.

Jones is the first of five people Morris is accused of killing in 2010, including two Tampa police officers, Jeffrey Kocab and David Curtis.

Melanie and Jeffrey Cornwell should have been getting a tax break for years on part of the homestead property in Dunedin they call their "little piece of Heaven." But due to a mistake at the Pinellas Property Appraiser's Office, they won't see any rebates for previous taxes, just a break on future tax bills.
