Coast Guard watchstanders from Miami and St Petersburg helped locate and rescue a 56-year-old boater who suffered breathing difficulties while on a motor boat 75 miles south of Fort Myers.

The man was having an acute asthma attack on board 548-foot motor vessel Sol Do Brasil at sea and needed medical attention, according to the US Coast Guard report.

Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Seventh District command center in Miami contacted watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg at 2 a.m. Monday to direct a helicopter aircrew from US Coast Guard Station Clearwater to rescue the man.

The boat was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital. He is in stable condition according to the US Coast Guard report.
