Memorial for Fred Karl moved to Tampa Convention Center

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA, FL -

The memorial service originally planned for Tampa icon Fred Karl has moved from the building named after him, the Fred B. Karl County Center, to the Tampa Convention Center.  Karl's family said the move was necessary in order to accommodate the large crowd expected to attend the ceremony.

Karl's family said that the original location at the county center holds about 115 people, which would have limited the service to family and dignitaries.  The convention center room will be able to hold about 300 people and the service will be live-streamed in the county center for people who want to watch at that location.

Expected to speak at the memorial are former Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio, U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson and community activist Chloe Coney.

The Karl family asks that in lieu of flowers to send a donation to the Frederick B. Karl veterans scholarship, Office of the Department of Alumni Relations, Stetson University College of Law, 1401 61st St. S, Gulfport, FL 33707.
