BROOKSVILLE, FL -

A Hernando County jury decided a 23-year-old woman is guilty of first degree murder and should spend the rest of her life in prison. Brittany Miles, 23, cried in court as she learned her punishment for killing Henry McCain, 66.

Investigators said Miles was pulled over and arrested for DUI on May 10, 2011, but escaped from the patrol car. She led deputies on a high speed chase before slamming her truck into McCain's motorcycle.

Miles testified on her own behalf Thursday.

"I want to tell them that I'm sorry," Miles said from the stand to McCain's family.

Moments after Miles was sentenced, McCain's widow told News Channel 8 she believed justice was served.

"A life was taken and she had to pay," said Anita McCain.

As required by mandatory guidelines, the judge sentenced Miles to life in prison. She was also sentenced to 30 years in prison for aggravated fleeing to elude.
