Deep sea monsters debut at MOSI in Tampa

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA, FL -

Tampa's Museum of Science and Industry has cleared away fifteen thousand square feet to give visitors an up close and personal look at what's lurking under the sea.

"Sea Monsters Revealed", the new exhibit, will include more than two hundred sea creatures, ranging from an eighteen foot, three thousand pound wale shark, a giant squid and a six foot wide manta ray.

Standing behind the mammoth Whale Shark exhibit, "Sea Monsters Revealed" creator John Zaller explains how they used plastination to preserve some of the sea animals.

"Plastination is a preservation process where you take organic items like this shark behind me and you preserve it in a way where it becomes basically a hardened rubber, or a hardened silicone so it's available for long term study and display.

Plastination is also used to preserve the exhibits in the world famous "Bodies" exhibition.

The world premiere of "Sea Monsters Revealed" starts Saturday March 9th at MOSI.
