Operation Cyber Storm nets 6 suspects in Hillsborough Co.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL (WFLA) -

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, Internet Predator Unit (IPU) conducted an initiative to identify and arrest individuals who are engaged in the illegal receipt, possession, production and distribution of child pornographic material.

As a result, the IPU successfully conducted 10 investigations involving subjects in Hillsborough County collecting illicit graphic material involving very young children.  The IPU with the assistance of HCSO Special Investigation Divisions and the Department of Patrol, concluded a two and half month investigation resulting in the execution of 10 search warrants.  Six subjects were arrested on 337 felony counts of possession of child pornography.

Authorities said additional arrest and charges are pending upon completion of computer forensics for the other suspects not yet arrested.  Three suspects were identified and their information was forwarded to other jurisdictions outside of Hillsborough County.  Authorities said that a total of 67 computer items and 63 electronic items were seized.

Authorities said that this operation was coordinated with the assistance of Hillsborough County State Attorney Division Chief Rita Peters.
