Budget cuts force Coast Guard Band to cancel Clearwater performance

Posted: Updated:
CLEARWATER, FL -

The federal budget sequestration has forced the cancellation of the US Coast Guard Bands performance at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater next Thursday.

"It was not an easy decision. We further regret that the US Coast Guard Band's tour of the south was cancelled so close to its start—however the decision was delayed until today under the hope that there would be some sort of resolution to sequestration. Per the Commandant's guidance on the handling of sequestration, the service's priority during this time is to preserve those areas that best support its critical assets," according to the US Coast Guard Band.

The US Coast Guard said it wished to express their sincerest appreciation to the many people and organizations who supported Band's planned visit to Clearwater and the Tampa Bay area.
