HERNANDO COUNTY, FL -

Hernando County Sheriff deputy shot a man in Spring Hill Wednesday night after a confrontation, according to the HCSO report.

HCSO deputies were dispatched to a suspicious person call to the 4000 block of Candler Avenue. Deputy Ramona Fuhs arrived on scene first.

She saw Joseph Ryan Berrios, 19, who was extremely aggressive, according to the sheriff's office report. He confronted her and Fuhs fired her gun.

Berrios was taken to a trauma center. His injuries are not life-threatening, deputies said. He is charged with battery of a law enforcement officer with bond set at $10,000, according to the sheriff's office report.

Deputy Fuhs got medical treatment at a local hospital as well, HCSO deputies said. She was released and placed on paid administrative leave, following the agency's standard protocol, according to the sheriff's office report.

She has been a HCSO deputy since 2011.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement and Hernando County Sheriff's Office Internal Affairs will review this incident. FDLE will lead the investigation.
