SARASOTA, FL -

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office has arrested Robert David Johnson of Sarasota for trying to rob one bank and then robbing a second bank this morning.  Authorities say the first call came in at 10:46 a.m., from the Liberty Savings Bank, 2323 Stickney Point Road, Sarasota. An employee saw a man wearing gloves put a ski mask over his face and pull a hoodie over his head as he approached the door. Authorities say the employee locked the doors and the suspect ran off when he could not gain access.

As deputies were searching for the suspect, a robbery was reported at the Bank of America at 3450 Clark Road in Sarasota.  Authorities say a man matching the description of the first suspect carrying a gun, handed the teller plastic bags to fill with cash.  The call was dispatched at 11:29 a.m. and responding deputies located the suspect nearby just five minutes later.  Johnson is charged with Bank Robbery and Attempted Robbery.
