Clearwater spring training games may impact traffic

PINELLAS COUNTY, FL -

The City of Clearwater says a perfect storm is brewing for gridlock after spring training games.  Heavy pedestrian and vehicle traffic is expected following spring training games at Bright House Field between 3:45 - 5:00 p.m. for the remainder of February and March. This game day traffic along with construction at the intersection of US19 and Gulf to Bay Boulevard and normal rush hour traffic will likely cause traffic delays in this area.

Those driving eastbound on Drew Street from the Keene Road area can avoid the US19 area by using alternate routes - SR590 and Sunset Point Road - for east/westbound access. Drivers should also consider using Keene Road, Hercules Avenue, or Belcher Road for north/southbound travel.

The eastbound turn lane of Drew Street to the southbound frontage road access to SR60 may be closed to vehicular traffic from 4:00PM - 5:00PM on game days.  City officials say this lane closure is necessary to ease traffic gridlock on Drew Street in the area of the US 19 overpass.

Phillies Spring Training games start at 1:05pm and normally conclude at approximately 4:00pm.
