Lakeland 12-year-old shot during drive-by according to police

LAKELAND, FL -

A 12-year-old Lakeland boy remains hospitalized with gunshot wounds police say he suffered during a drive-by shooting at his home.  Aleek Saint Aime suffered three gun shot wounds according to his mother who didn't want to be identified. It happened at 8:54 Monday night in the 600 block of 3rd Street.  "All I know is I heard like 16 shots, and I ran out of my room, and that's when I saw my son gushing blood," Saint Aime's mom explained.

Investigators say they received 911 calls from family members and neighbors.  "Officers responded and of course found bullet holes in the house, and we did have a 12-year-old that had been wounded," said Captain John Thomason.  "He'd already been transported to the hospital, so we sent units up to the hospital," he said.

Detectives confirmed Saint Aime suffered gunshot wounds to his hip and leg and a more serious injury to his arm.  Investigators are now searching for the person or people responsible who may have driven away in a 1990's model black or silver SUV.

Saint Aime's mother believes the shooting may have been motivated by gangs in the neighborhood, but police are still investigating those claims.  "We haven't been able to confirm that," Captain Thomason said. "Based on information that we are receiving it does sound like it may be associated with gang activity, and of course that's something that we will look into and we will pursue that."

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the Lakeland Police Department at 863-834-6900.
