Eighty-year-old Pasco Co man attacks neighbor with machete

ZEPHYRHILLS, FL -

Eighty-year-old Alfred Houghton is accused of slicing his neighbor, Michael Shultz Sr., with a machete during an argument Sunday morning.

The Pasco County Sheriff's Office said Houghton confronted Shultz because had "junk" in his yard and he worried that the his sickly trees would topple onto Houghton's fence.

According to a report, Houghton told Shultz, "I am going to kill you."  He then kicked 57-year-old Shultz in the leg, pulled out a rusty machete and nicked him twice on the wrist and elbow.

Houghton continued to make threats against Shultz after his arrest and "even eluded to putting out a 'contract' on Shultz's life," the report states.

Houghton, of 41125 Deems Road in Zephyrhills, was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He was released Sunday from the Pasco jail on $10,000 bail.
