Man high on cocktail of drugs stabs Largo CVS employee

LARGO, FL -

Largo Police said drugs and alcohol contributed to an attempted murder and an attempted burglary.

Security cameras at the CVS at 4000 East Bay Blvd. in Largo caught video of a man running into the store just after midnight Monday morning. He was wearing a ski mask and armed with a knife. The video shows him stab employee, Donald McKay, several times, before running back out of the store.

Largo Police Lt. Stephen Slaughter said investigators arrested 23-year-old Lorenzo Guerrero for the crime.

"The suspect did speak to us, but he couldn't provide any information on what happened," said Lt. Stephen Slaughter.

Slaughter said Guerrero had ingested cocaine, synthetic drugs and the alcoholic beverage, Four Loco, before the attack.

"Drugs in and among themselves are dangerous," he said. "You start combining the drugs, the affects sometimes become unknown."

Lt. Slaughter said they were able to track Guerrero down because he left a vehicle in the CVS parking lot. Inside that car, they found a can of paint. A can Slaughter said Guerrero had used to try and break in the door at the nearby Fairway Convenience Store.

Guerrero didn't steal anything from either location. He is now charged with attempted burglary and attempted murder.

Police said the victim, McKay, is recovering from his stab wounds at Bayfront Medical Center.
