Tampa's boil water advisory is lifted

Posted: Updated:

The precautionary Boil Water Notice in effect for all City of Tampa water customers was lifted Sunday, after test results confirmed the water is safe to drink.

A power failure affecting the City of Tampa David L. Tippin Water Treatment Facility resulted in either temporary low pressure or loss of water service for customers on Friday, Feb. 22. All customers within the City of Tampa water service area were requested to follow a precautionary boil water notice.

On Saturday, water quality staff began testing 25 water samples taken from different points in the city.

The boil water alert impacted homeowners, hospitals and restaurants. Stores, once filled with bottled water, saw their shelves emptied as people stocked up.

The Tampa Water Department serves more than 560,000 people.
