The father of one of the three missing boaters called Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg when his son and two friends didn't come back from a fishing trip late Wednesday.
A Jayhawk helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater and a 45-foot response boat from Coast Guard Station Cortez set out on to search for the missing men.
The aircrew spotted the boaters near Big Sarasota Pass after they shot off a flare. The boat had engine problems and became disabled, according to the crew's report.
The response boat crew towed the vessel safely to the Coquina Boat Ramp in Bradenton Beach.
