HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL (WFLA) -

Behind the cash register at the Shell station at Lakeview Drive and Dale Mabry in Hillsborough County, Gabriel, who didn't want to give his last name,  is one of the smiling faces helping customers.

Early Wednesday, a man wearing a hoodie and gloves entered the store to rob him saying,  "give my all the money. Put it in a bag or I'll kill you." Gabriel didn't comply.  "Actually. I had the bag in my hand. And I have the emergency, cops...that's it" said Gabriel in broken English, referring to his pushing of a panic button behind the counter.

The frustrated robber almost left, but returned, going behind the counter. " He actually (got) the change money because he cannot open the register. Only quarters maybe 200 dollar bill. That's it" said Gabriel.

When the robber left, Gabriel left the store, jumped in his car and found the thief walking down lakeview. "After when he see me, he dropped all money in the street. And he left, he ran" he said.

The Wednesday morning robbery fits a pattern across Hillsborough and Pasco counties. 7 heists in all, concentrated near the County line, including Wesley Chapel and Zephyrhills. Deputies fear, the crooks could become violent.

Gabriel, a former Austrian military man, is still smiling. "I hope nobody come here because the security is good" he said, laughing.
