Posted: Updated:

Tampa Fire Rescue crews responded to a structure fire at 2531 Green Street W. at 11:46 p.m. Friday.  The fire was upgraded to a working structure fire due to the multiple 911 calls received.

Firefighters described the scene as a single story, single family residence with heavy smoke showing. Crews were able to quickly contain and extinguish the fire. First responders  rescued one dog, one guinea pig, and four baby chickens.  However, two of four chickens did not make it.  No other casualties were reported.

Authorities say the occupant was not at home at the time of the fire.  One firefighter was injured in the line of duty.  He suffered a minor injury and was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital for precautionary treatment.
