2013 Python Challenge results announced

Posted: Updated:

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission announced the results of 2013 Python Challenge Saturday. The competitors captured 68 snakes this year in the Everglades in less than a month.

"Thanks to the determination of Python Challenge competitors, we are able to gather invaluable information that will help refine and focus combined efforts to control pythons in the Everglades," FWC Executive Director Nick Wiley said.

This year's Grand Prize winners are Brian Barrows and Ruben Ramirez, for harvesting 6 and 18 pythons respectively.

The longest snake caught was 14 feet 3 inches long.

It is prohibited by law to sell or own pythons as pets in Florida.
