The Vice and Narcotics Unit inspected 11 clinics in Hernando County to verify they comply with the county's pain clinic ordinances.
The unit started on January 29. The deputies shared the results with us on Friday. Three clinics failed the inspection.
Dr. Varel, who was still listed as a doctor for Cosmopolitan Clinic at 13111 Spring Hill Drive in Spring Hill, passed away not so long ago. The clinic will need a new doctor to reopen.
Dr. Rivera from Florida Medical Pain Management at 5270 Applegate Drive in Spring Hill didn't place the county license number on the prescriptions issued from the office. The clinic was given a warning.
Dr. Ahmed's General Practice Pain and Injury Clinic at 12080 Cortez Boulevard in Brooksville violated three county regulations including accepting only cash payments for their services. The county may revoke the license in this case.
The rest of the clinics met all of the requirements outlined in the county ordinance, Hernando County Sheriff's Office deputies said.
