A new Florida law has tourists worried

Posted: Updated:

A new driving law that went into effect January 1, will not be enforced, according to Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.

The law requires all foreign tourists that intend to drive in Florida to have an International Drivers Permit issued by their country. The permit translates a driver's license into English.

Florida visitors from Canada and the UK expressed concern over the law since their driver's license was already in English.

Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles Spokesperson Kirsten Olsen-Doolan said a lot of people have called about this. She assured, there was no reason to worry.

"While we figure out the language of it, they won't be enforcing it," she said. "Folks just need to have a valid license from their country in order to drive in Florida."
