Deputies: a baby girl found cold and starving in Citrus

CITRUS COUNTY -

The neighbors of Alyssia Skinner didn't even know there was a child in that mobile home, when the Citrus County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested her saying she had abused and neglected a 17-month-old girl.

When the deputies arrived to Skinner's home on Monday responding to a well-being check call, she tried to stop them from entering and clean and feed the baby, according to the arrest record.

The little girl had injuries on her head, the deputies said. They called the emergency medical services. She was later rushed to All Children's Hospital.

The investigation revealed that the girl was malnourished and had severe head trauma consistent with "shaken baby" cases. She had also suffered from hypothermia.

The deputies said Skinner had locked the 17-month-old girl alone in a cold room for long periods of time.

Skinner told the detectives she was the only caregiver and a custodial parent of the girl. Skinner is charged with two counts of child neglect and two counts of aggravated child abuse, torture, punish, cage.
