LAKELAND, FL -

The Barney Barnett School of Business and Free Enterprise at the Florida Southern College in Lakeland will soon move into a new home.

The ceremony to break ground for the new Bill and Mary Ann Becker Business Building took place Thursday.

The three-story 40,000 square feet high-tech facility will have a simulated trading floor, a career and placement center, a computer lab and the Passport Cafe with an international menu.

Dean of the Yale School of Architecture Robert A.M. Stern of New York will design the new structure. He had worked on the other buildings at the FSC before.

"This dynamic state-of-the-art facility will be a place where generations of students prepare for important careers throughout the world," said FSC President Anne Kerr. "It will help establish the Barney Barnett School of Business and Free Enterprise as one of the best business schools in the nation."

Bill Becker and his wife Mary Ann made the naming donation, the college representatives told us. Becker is a 1965 graduate of Florida Southern. He has an honorary Doctor of Business degree from the FSC for his business and philanthropic achievements.

The building is planned to open its doors in summer of 2015.
