World's largest baseball card unveiled in Lakeland

Posted: Updated:
LAKELAND, FL (WFLA) -

The city of Lakeland's love for baseball took on a whole new dimension today when trading card company Topps unveiled the world's largest baseball card.

The larger-than-life collectible features Detroit Tigers first baseman Prince Fielder who attended a ceremony to reveal the 60x90 foot card at Peterson Park.

Fielder and the rest of the Detroit Tigers spring train in Lakeland. In fact, the Tigers have the longest spring training relationship with a city in Major League Baseball history. This is the team's 77th season in Lakeland.

"You know obviously Detroit has a good relationship here cause you know their spring training's been here forever, and also the fans love Detroit, so it's a mutual love I think," Fielder said.

The 75 youth baseball players who attended today's Topps baseball card ceremony are certainly big fans of the game too, and the fact they got free trading cards for attending didn't hurt either.
