TAMPA, FL -

Fans of News Channel 8 may have noticed a new face recently.

Reporter John Rogers has joined WFLA-TV. Rogers comes to Tampa from Mobile, Alabama, where he was a reporter and anchor at WALA-TV since 2009. Previously, Rogers worked at WCTV in Tallahassee, and is a graduate of Florida State University.

Rogers' primary focus will be covering news and events from the Sarasota community and surrounding area.

"Sarasota and Manatee counties are important areas of coverage for News Channel 8. And, we think it's vital to have a reporter who actually lives in the area where he works. John will live in Sarasota, where he'll have the opportunity to really get to know the community. John understands what '8 On Your Side' reporting is all about, and we're looking forward to his stories," said Don North, WFLA News Director.

Rogers' first report aired Tuesday night.
