Polk County man arrested after battering school principal

POLK COUNTY, FL -

The Polk County Sheriff's Office reported a man entered an elementary school Monday and battered the principal.

Ovonda Birdsong, Principal at Oscar J. Pope Elementary School, flagged down a Polk County Sheriff's deputy and reported that a black male was in the main office of the school and that he struck her several times.

The deputy located and arrested 42-year-old Elester Trudell of 2429 Blair Circle S. In Lakeland. Authorities say that Trudell does not have children who attend the school. According to authorities, Trudell had also struck 28-year-old Anna Williams prior to arriving at the school. Birdsong and Williams were not injured in the ordeal.

Authorities say that Trudell has been arrested numerous times in Polk County for various crimes ranging from Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer to Petit Theft. Trudell was booked into the Polk County Jail.
