Tampa Police are looking for leads after a stray bullet struck a woman following the Krewe of Sant' Yago's Knight Parade in Ybor City.
It happened Saturday at 10:13 PM near the intersection of 7th Avenue and 16th Street. Hundreds of post-parade partiers were gathered there when two groups got into a fight, according to police. One shot was fired, which struck Camile Prince, 24, in the thigh. Police don't believe she was the intended target.
"Some of our customers were freaking out because they didn't know what was going on and we just see everyone running this way and screaming," said clerk Chakia Harris at the Ybor Supermarket. "It was really bad."
Police said a surveillance camera near the intersection captured the crowd running away, but not the actual shooting.
"It's pretty tragic and it's really pathetic that people can't come outside and have a good time without something like that happening," said Harris.
Ybor City resident Sammy Campisi, who lives at the intersection where the shooting happened, said he hopes it doesn't give the historic district a bad rap.
"Don't be fearful over this one incident," said Sammy Campisi. "It could have happened in a parking lot in anywhere USA."
Prince was taken to Tampa General Hospital for treatment. She's expected to make a full recovery. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Crimestoppers at 1 (800) 873-TIPS.
