YBOR CITY, FL (WFLA) -

Illuminated lights and energy from an estimated 100,000 people lit up Ybor City Saturday night for the annual Krewe of Sant' Yago's Knight Parade.

"Ybor is the place to be," said USF student Joy Williams.

Parade chairman Jamie Lowrance said it takes an entire year to plan the event. About 8,500 people from dozens of community organizations were in this year's parade, he said.

"Organized craziness is a good way to describe it," said Lowrance. "It's people having a good time, but being very safe at the same time."

Ohio resident Nancy Walcutt was among the large crowd standing along 7th Ave. trying to catch beads.

"I love all these beads and all the fun and costumes," said Walcutt.

The annual parade is also a fundraiser for the Krewe of Sant' Yago. The group has contributed more than $1 million in proceeds towards scholarships for local college and university students during the last 18-years, according to parade organizers.
