Investigators see pattern in west St. Pete neighborhood fires

Posted: Updated:
ST. PETERSBURG, FL -

Authorities say the Causeway Isles neighborhood in west St. Petersburg has been plagued by arson since 2011.

At approximately 8:00 p.m. Thursday, the St. Pete Fire Department responded to a vacant residence at 181 79th Street South regarding a structure fire. The blaze on the inside of the house was quickly extinguished with damages estimated at approximately $5,000.

Two prior arsons have taken place at this same vacant residence, one on January 2, 2013, and the other on September 4, 2012. Investigators say that five similar fires in the west St. Pete neighborhood date back to October 2011.

As with the fire in January, investigators say someone broke into the residence and interior furnishings were set on fire. In both cases, no one was seen going into or leaving the residence.

Police need your help. Anyone with information regarding the arsons should call the non-emergency number at 727-893-7780, Text-A-Tip to 727-420-8911 or leave a confidential tip at 727-892-5000.
