Gas theft leads to fraud charge for Weeki Wachee Park employee

HERNANDO COUNTY, FL -

Hernando County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested a man on charges of organized fraud Thursday after the Weeki Wachee State Park employees told them they were missing over $1,500 worth of gas, according to the deputies' report.

Dakota Hardesty, 27, confessed to making about 30 fraudulent transactions on the park gasoline credit card, the deputies said.

He would leave for lunch in his own car not taking any gas cans with him and would come back with a gas receipt, the park employees told the deputies.

After they looked closer at the transactions they figured out Hardesty had been buying gas for his car on the park's gas card since September 2012, according to the Sheriff's Office report.
