Manatee County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested a man Thursday for hitting a police car and trying to flee the scene of the incident.
According to the police report, Edger Lopez, 21, smashed into a power box at 26th Street and 53rd Avenue West, backed into a police cruiser and was slowly leaving when another police vehicle blocked his way.
The report stated Lopez was moving at speeds at or under 30 miles per hour towards US 41.
If he were not stopped he would have entered the busy intersection causing serious injuries to the public, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office deputies said.
