Free finds in the Tampa Bay area

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

Free stuff really is not hard to find. You just have to know where to look.  In fact, you can eat for free nearly every day of the week if you keep track of who is offering what and when.

IHOP is giving away free small stacks of pancakes as part of National Pancake Day today. You are, however, encouraged to make a donation to the Children's Miracle Network in exchange for the three free hot cakes.

"Free is free, so why not" said IHOP customer Sue Watt. She admits she is always looking for a deal and likes when she finds one. "I'm queen of the coupons my family would say."

One website that constantly tracks the ever changing world of freebies is www.freestuff.com. That's where Eight on Your Side found coupons for a free bowl of Chili at Waffle House and a free cheeseburger at Champps just for signing up for the Champps fan club.

Often, restaurants will want you to share your email, join their club or like them on Facebook in order to get the freebie. For example, you can get your hands on a free bagel from Bruegger's Bagels this Thursday if you like them on Facebook today.

Next Wednesday, February 13, 2013, Panda Express is offering a free tangy jumbo shrimp to celebrate the Chinese new year. You simply have to print out the coupon on line or show it on your mobile device to get your free single serving.

If you have children, finding free kids meals is a piece of cake. www.kidsmealdeals.com shows you which restaurants in your area offer free kids meals on which days. You simply enter your zip code or city to see the deals available near you.

If you're looking for free things to do. A Google search for freebies in the Tampa Bay area will yield a number of results. The Tampa Electric Manatee Viewing Center in Apollo Beach is a great place to see our sea cows and learn about them at the same time. It's only open seasonally because manatees only seek the warm water in the area when it is cold outside. The Manatee Viewing Center is open seven days a week through April 15th.

Finally, www.craigslist.com is a great place to check back for free stuff on a regular basis. On any given day, there's no telling what you'll find. Recent entries included a bathroom vanity, a perfectly good pair of french doors and free yard mulch.
