Hernando County Sheriff's Office Vice and Narcotics Unit officers found a large marijuana grow operation in Weeki Wachee's River Country subdivision Friday.
A total of 165 marijuana plants up to six feet tall occupied three rooms of the house with a special hydroponics system, according to the Sheriff's Office report.
The detectives said the electric power for the operation was being diverted before it hit the meter. They determined that about $300 worth of electricity was stolen.
The Hernando County Building Department inspectors declared the residence unsafe.
Deputies arrested Arturo Jorge Mendez, 45, and Mayra Rodriguez, 44, on charges of Trafficking and Cultivation of Marijuana, as well as Possession of a Structure for Cultivation and Drug Paraphernalia, Grand Theft and Tampering with Meter.
The plants and the harvested material weighed in at over 350 pounds.
