8 year old girl dies after being struck by SUV

TAMPA, FL -

An 8 year old girl has died after being struck by an sport utility vehicle Sunday while running across East Busch Boulevard.

Police say, Jayla Shubber was hit about 10:45 a.m. while crossing Busch at 14th Street with her 12-year-old sister.

The driver of a 2007 Honda Pilot was traveling eastbound in the inside lane. The driver did not see the girl running across street.

Jayla was transported to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition where she was later pronounced dead during emergency surgery.

Detectives are investigating the crash as an accident. There are no charges pending at this time.
